Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has aimed a dig at two United players in the wake of an embarrassing 6-3 drubbing in the Manchester derby on Sunday.

Scholes did not explicitly mention the two players in question, but his Instagram post suggested that Antony and Jadon Sancho were the ones targeted.

United had a day to forget at the Etihad after they were thrashed, a result which shocked many United fans, including Paul Scholes, according to The Sun.

Before the derby, Scholes had hit out at the club's recruitment policy, singling out the likes of Raphael Varane and Jadon Sancho. His derby reaction was cryptic, but any football fan could decode the message.

After full-time, the 11-time Premier League champion took to Instagram and shared a picture of former United teammates Ryan Giggs and David Beckham from back in their playing days.

Scholes praises Giggs and Beckham

The caption read, "Anyone remember when wingers used to help their full-backs?"

Giggs and Beckham were supreme creators while at United and were also lauded for their tactical discipline under Sir Alex Ferguson.

Both United's full-backs Diogo Dalot and Tyrell Malacia were hapless on Sunday. Both were on yellow cards by the 23rd minute, and many felt Antony and Sancho could've helped more on the defensive end.

Scholes slams Man United transfers

Sports Brief earlier reported on Paul Scholes slamming United's transfer policy which he believes sets up the manager to fail.

Scholes pointed out the signings of Raphael Varane, Jadon Sancho and Casemiro, saying the club didn't do a proper evaluation before making the decision.

Scholes has been a harsh critic of the club since Sir Alex Ferguson retired in 2013 and has earned a reputation as a straight talker.
