The search for Nigeria’s next coach has been a hectic process but the Nigeria Football Federation appears to have finally concluded its hunt with an announcement in view.
Over 100 coaches including foreign and local have applied to become the next Super Eagles coach since the departure of Jose Peseiro after failing to agree to a new deal with the NFF.
According to Brila, the incoming Super Eagles coach will sign a two-year contract with the Federation, with Emmanuel Amunike and Finidi George among the top contenders for the job.
So far, the identity of Nigeria’s new coach has remained unknown, although there are strong indicators that the NFF will appoint a local coach to lead the Super Eagles for the next two years.

The new coach will be tasked with qualifying the Super Eagles for the 2026 FIFA World Cup and also winning the final of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Peseiro debunks Super Eagles return rumours
Meanwhile, former Nigeria coach, Peseiro, has maintained he has not been contacted regarding a return to lead the Super Eagles for the second time as the country continues to search for his replacement, Soccernet reports.
Rumours circulated in the Nigerian media that the 63-year-old coach is in talks with the Ministry of Sports about perhaps returning to head the Super Eagles following the NFF’s struggle to find a new coach.

FootballPeseiro, on the other hand, claimed that neither the Ministry nor the NFF had contacted him, dismissing media speculations while mentioning that he is currently on vacation.
Finidi emerges new favourite
Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Finidi George is the new favourite to land the Super Eagles job as the search for Nigeria's next coach continues.
The 52-year-old has gotten the nudge from high-ranking officials in the sports ministry to be named coach of the Nigerian team.
Recall that the Ministry of Sports had initially informed the NFF that they wouldn't offer any form of remuneration support to the federation in the event they opted for a foreign manager, who would undoubtedly command higher remuneration.
