  • Cristiano Ronaldo's Al-Nassr have shown interest in signing Barcelona legend Sergio Busquets
  • The defensive midfielder's contract at Camp Nou expires in June this year
  • The 34-year-old is said to be looking for a fresh challenge at this stage of his career

Saudi Arabia club Al-Nassr are reportedly prepared to make an astronomical offer to sign current Barcelona captain, Sergio Busquets.

Busquets has been one of the long-serving members of the current Barcelona squad, but his contract with the Catalan giants is set to run out next summer.

That has alerted Al-Nassr, who have now reportedly shifted their attention to the Spanish international, as they aim to strengthen their midfield.

According to Marca, Rudi Garcia's side are prepared to pay the defensive midfielder 18 million euros tax-free per season for two years.

The reports further note that Al-Nassr is prepared to make Busquets the second-highest earner at the club behind Cristiano Ronaldo.

Saudi Arabia is keen to bring major stars to their domestic league to add credibility to their 2030 World Cup bid, much like Qatar did before them.

Busquets' contract situation

Busquets has been one of the long-serving members of the current Barcelona squad, but his contract with the Catalan giants is set to run out next summer.

The defensive midfielder is free to negotiate with other clubs but is not expected to leave Camp Nou after being persuaded by coach Xavi.

Busquets injured

Meanwhile, Barcelona has had an injury scare ahead of the resumption of the Europa League after veteran midfielder Busquets sustained an injury against Sevilla.

Barcelona cruised to a 3-0 victory against Sevilla, but the 34-year-old veteran had to be taken off just five minutes into the La Liga contest after sustaining the injury.

According to Barca Universal, their captain could be out of action for at least fifteen days following the initial assessment of his condition which suggested a grade-two ankle sprain.

It would imply that Busquets is a serious doubt for Barcelona's UEFA Europa League playoff first-leg match against English Premier League side Manchester United.

Xavi desperate to keep Busquets

Meanwhile, Barcelona boss Xavi is said to be desperate to keep hold of Busquets as the 34-year-old’s contract nears its end, Sports Brief earlier reported.

Xavi sees the Spanish midfielder as an integral part of his plans and is keen for the veteran to sign a contract extension, and to remain at the club beyond the ongoing season.

Busquets has been in La Blaugrana's first team since 2008, making 696 appearances for the club in all competitions, contributing 18 goals and 42 assists.
