Busquets' contract situation

Busquets has been one of the long-serving members of the current Barcelona squad, but his contract with the Catalan giants is set to run out next summer.

The defensive midfielder is free to negotiate with other clubs, but is not expected to leave Camp Nou after being persuaded by coach Xavi.

Xavi desperate to keep Busquets

Meanwhile, Barcelona boss Xavi is said to be desperate to keep hold of Busquets as the 34-year-old’s contract nears its end, Sports Mole reports.

Xavi sees the Spanish midfielder as an integral part of his plans and is keen for the veteran to sign a contract extension, and to remain at the club beyond the ongoing season.

Busquets has been in La Blaugrana's first team since 2008, making 696 appearances for the club in all competitions, contributing 18 goals and 42 assists.

Busquets on Spain's cruel loss

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Busquets didn't believe Spain deserved to be knocked out of the 2022 World Cup so soon.

La Roja were dumped out of the global football tournament in Qatar after they were beaten in a penalty shootout by Morocco.

Busquets, who missed one of the European nation's penalties, lamented his nation being eliminated in the cruellest way.
