Thibaut Courtois has been forced out of Real Madrid’s game at Mallorca after sustaining an injury during the warm-up.

The 30-year-old goalkeeper was set to start in Real Madrid’s La Liga match at Son Moix before the knock ruled him out.

He was replaced by 23-year-old Ukrainian international Andriy Lunin

Courtois will undergo tests tomorrow to see the extent of the injury to see if he can travel with Real Madrid to Morocco for the Club World Cup.

Courtois has been a pivotal figure between the sticks for Madrid this season. Carlo Ancelotti will be hoping that the Belgium custodian's injury isn't a serious one.

Madrid defeated at Mallorca

Real Madrid's hopes of retaining La Liga were dented Sunday as the champions fell 1-0 at Real Mallorca, to remain five points behind leaders Barcelona.

The Catalans host Sevilla later on and can open up an eight-point lead after a frustrated Madrid fell against Javier Aguirre's side, with Marco Asensio missing a penalty against his former club.

Nacho's 13th-minute looping header into his own net separated the teams in a hard-fought clash, frequently slowed by various fouls from the hosts.

Injury update on Militao and Benzema

Meanwhile, Real Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has dropped the tentative date for the return of Karim Benzema but is unsure when Eder Militao will be fully fit again.

Both Real Madrid stars suffered varying degrees of injuries after they were substituted early as Los Blancos defeated Valencia to keep their La Liga hopes alive.

According to Sportskeeda, Ancelotti has revealed that the injury to Militao is more serious than that of Benzema who expects to be fit for Los Blancos’ next league game.

Ancelotti angry at fixture congestion

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Carlo Ancelotti is furious with the organizers of football competitions, with the veteran manager wanting something done about the fixture congestion in the sport.

The Real Madrid boss has seen his side compete in at least four competitions concurrently this season, leading to his players in action every midweek.

Ancelotti - who is set to lead Real Madrid to the FIFA Club World Cup next week - has now warned football organisers that players are likely to burn out soon.
