Barcelona has had an injury scare ahead of the resumption of the Europa League after veteran midfielder Sergio Busquets sustained an injury against Sevilla.

Barcelona cruised to a 3-0 victory against Sevilla, but the 34-year-old veteran had to be taken off just five minutes into the La Liga contest after sustaining the injury.

According to Barca Universal, their captain could be out of action for at least fifteen days following the initial assessment of his condition which suggested a grade-two ankle sprain.

It would imply that Busquets is a serious doubt for Barcelona's UEFA Europa League playoff first-leg match against English Premier League side Manchester United.

Barcelona will host the Red Devils at Camp Nou on Thursday, February 16, before the reverse fixture takes place a week later at Old Trafford on February 23.

Xavi reveals Barcelona titles target

Meanwhile, Xavi Hernandez has insisted that Barcelona can win all the titles they have left to fight for after they demolished Sevilla 3-0 at Camp Nou on Sunday evening, Forbes reports.

Barcelona are frontrunner to win the La Liga season after going eight points clear at the top of the table following Real Madrid’s shock loss to Real Mallorca over the weekend.

The Catalan giants are simultaneously through to the Copa del Rey semi-finals against Los Blancos while also set to face Manchester United in a Europa League playoff in under a fortnight.

Barcelona crush Sevilla to expand La Liga lead

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Barcelona stretched their La Liga lead over Real Madrid to a substantial eight points with a comfortable 3-0 win over Sevilla on Sunday.

The Catalans, aiming to win their first Spanish title since 2019, punished second-placed Madrid for their 1-0 defeat by Real Mallorca earlier on, opening up a wide gap ahead of their rivals.

After a tight first half Jordi Alba broke the deadlock before the hour mark, with further goals from Gavi and Raphinha helping wrap up the win.
