Nigeria suffered more than a defeat against Mali as Nantes winger Moses Simon sustained a severe injury in the game in Morocco.

The former Levante winger was included in the starting lineup against Les Aigles after coming from the bench against Ghana the last time out.

Goals from El-Bilal Toure and Kamouri Doumbia earned a deserving victory for Mali as they ended a winless run against the Super Eagles in 49 years.

In the 30th minute of the game, Simon was seriously injured after clashing with Mali's goalkeeper, Mamadou Samassa, according to a report by Soccernet.

In a viral video shared on social media, the Nigerian winger had to be stretchered off and rushed to the hospital.

The Super Eagles star was in tears as it looked like he suffered from a knee injury.

The injury to Simon drew reactions from fans on social media as they wished him a quick recovery.
