However, just when the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) appear to be settling on an ideal fit for the coaching vacancy, a new twist has emerged.

A report courtesy of media outlet Score Nigeria has detailed that Finidi George, is the new favourite to land the Super Eagles job.

Finidi favourite for Super Eagles role

The report highlights that the 52-year-old has gotten the nudge from high-ranking officials in the sports ministry to be named coach of the Nigerian team.

Recall that the Ministry of Sports had initially informed the NFF that they wouldn't offer any form of remuneration support to the federation in the event they opted for a foreign manager, who would undoubtedly command higher remuneration.

Following this report, the NFF narrowed their options to the two indigenous candidates—Emmanuel Amunike and Finidi.

Furthermore, the update stressed that the top officials in the sports ministry further tipped the NFF to appoint Finidi, citing issues related to his familiarity with the team and the limited time available ahead of Nigeria’s next fixture.

The report concludes by stating that the ministry also recommended Amunike as an assistant to the Enyimba coach during his stint as coach.

However, it remains to be seen if Amunike would accept this new role as an assistant to Finidi, especially considering he had been touted as the odds-on favourite to land the coaching role.

NFF discloses contract details of next Super Eagles coach

In another report, Sports Brief stated that the NFF have disclosed the contract details for the next Super Eagles coach.

The football federation are prepared to offer the next manager a two-year contract, along with a salary reported to be around $50,000.
