Abdul Fatawu Issahaku and his Leicester City teammates celebrated their English Premier League promotion in style despite not kicking a ball before Monday's trip to Preston.

Following Leeds United's thumping defeat to Queens Park Rangers on Friday night, the Foxes are guaranteed a return to the English topflight a year after suffering demotion.

While waiting to travel to Preston for the game against Preston North End, the players were anxiously monitoring their promotion-chasing rivals Leeds.

In a video that has since gone viral on social media, Issahaku and his teammates burst into excitement after the final whistle of the match between the Lilywhites and QPR.

The Foxes will now switch their attention to finishing top of the table at the end of the campaign with two games remaining.

How Leicester City players reacted to their EPL return

The players of Leicester City took to social media to immediately share their delight after securing their English Premier League promotion.

"Congratulations to me, the boys, the staff the club and the amazing fans.. 2 more to go!!! We back!!," wrote Nigeria midfielder Wilfried Ndidi X, formerly Twitter.
Kiernan Drewsbury-Hall added: "Right… who’s out in Leicester tonight?"
"We are going up, We are going up," sang goalkeeper Mads Hermansen.

Issahaku's hat-trick proves crucial

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Fatawu Issahaku's hat-trick against Southampton proved crucial for Leicester as they secured their return to the EPL.

The Foxes will celebrate their return to the topflight when they travel to Preston on Monday following Leeds United's 4-0 defeat to Queens Park Rangers on Friday night.

Issahaku, who is on loan from Sporting Lisbon, has been immense for the former Premier League champions, scoring six goals and providing 12 assists in the English

Leicester City seal EPL promotion

Sports Brief also reported that Leicester City were promoted to the Premier League on Friday after rivals Leeds United crashed to a shock 4-0 defeat at Queens Park Rangers.

The result leaves Leicester top of the Championship with 94 points with two games to play while Leeds stay second on 90 but with just one match left.

Third-place Ipswich Town can pip Leeds to the second automatic promotion place as they currently have 89 points with three matches still to play.
