The Union Berlin striker however took too long to take his shot with just an empty net in front of him, prompting a Wolfsburg defender to quickly clear the opportunity off the line.

Roussillon was however presented another opportunity by his teammate inside the 18-yard box after the final whistle which he converted much to the appreciation of the supporters in the stand.

Union Berlin through to quarterfinals

Union Berlin has booked their spot in the German Cup quarterfinals after a hard fought 2-1 victory against Wolfsburg on Tuesday, January 31, Washington Post reports.

Goals from Kevin Behrens and Robin Knoche ensured Union Berlin kept their hopes alive for a domestic double this season.

The Berlin-based club are also in the running for the Bundesliga title this season as they are presently second on the league table in Germany’s top-flight league, just one point behind defending champions Bayern Munich.

Union draw level with Bayern

Earlier, Sports Brief reported Union Berlin climbed level on points with Bayern Munich at the top of the Bundesliga on Saturday, with a 2-0 away win at derby rivals Hertha Berlin.

Bayern can pull ahead again later Saturday when they host Eintracht Frankfurt.

Union took the lead late in the first half through Dutch defender Danilho Doekhi, who headed in a freekick from captain Christopher Trimmel.
