Otto Addo was recently named the new coach for the Ghana national football team.

The former Borussia Dortmund tactician took over following the Black Stars' poor showing at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

A former Ghana international has claimed the 48-year-old was not ready to coach the national team.

Ex-Ghana star, Mohammed Polo, believes Addo had no option but to take the role, despite reiterating that he has a job in Germany.

“Otto was not even ready. He was been forced to take up the job. Those who are ready, give it to them,” Polo said per My Joy Online.
“The guy came here and he told you point blank he has a job, and you said, 'Please, come and do the job,' as if we without him, nobody can do the job. What is this?
“He came, fine, and qualified us to the World Cup [in Qatar] with only two matches.”

Addo briefly coached the four-time AFCON champions at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, then returned to Germany, per ESPN.

He took the role on a 34-month contract in March and has been tasked with rejuvenating a slumbering African football giant.

In his first stint as Ghana coach, his team managed four wins, four draws, and four defeats in 12 matches.

The Black Stars were eliminated in the group stage of the AFCON for the second time in a row earlier in the year. Can Addo make Ghanaians dream again?

What Addo will earn as Ghana coach

Sports Brief previously reported on what Addo will earn as Ghana coach.

Addo will earn $50,000 monthly, the largest amount since Avram Grant, who led Ghana between 2014 and 2017.

Asamoah Gyan's advice to Addo

Sports Brief earlier reported on Ghana legend, Asamoah Gyan, asking Addo to build his team around Mohammed Kudus.

The West Ham star has taken the Premier League by storm this season and has become Ghana's best player.

Kudus has made 26 appearances for Ghana and has scored 17 goals this season for the London club.
