Jubilation in Nigeria As Super Falcons Move Two Steps Up on FIFA World Rankings

  • The USA are still the number one team in the world, with Sweden still in the second position and France moved to third

The Super Falcons have climbed two spots in the latest FIFA World Rankings, moving from their 41st position to 39th after it was released on Friday, March 25, Complete Sports reports

The Nigerian ladies completed a double over the Lady Elephants of Cote d'Ivoire in February which was practically responsible for their upward movement on the rankings.

Super Falcons, who are the current African champions, remain the number one best team on the continent followed by Cameroon, Ghana and South Africa.

Overall, the United States of America are still the number one team in the world, with Sweden still in the second position, France moved to third, Germany slipped to 4th, and the Netherlands are fifth.

The next FIFA/Coca-Cola Women’s World Ranking will be published on June 17, 2022.

Super Falcons to play friendlies with Canada

Meanwhile, the Super Falcons of Nigeria will be partaking in two key friendlies against Canada in April to commemorate the North American ladies’ triumph at the 2020 Olympic Games

Both countries are scheduled to face-off in a two-match series, with the first game to take place on April 8 while the second match will be played three days later, on April 11.

Nigeria and Canada have met on three previous occasions, with both nations sharing a win each and drawn on one occasion.

The Super Falcons in February defeated West African rivals, Ivory Coast 3-0 over two legs to qualify for the African Women Cup of Nations.

Nigeria is set to defend her crown when the AWCON kick starts in July after winning her 12th continental title in 2018.

Rashidat Ajibade continues blistering scoring form

Sports Brief earlier reported that Super Falcons forward, Rashidat Ajibade was on song again for her Spanish Primera division side as Atletico Madrid thrashed Tenerife 4-1.

The 22-year-old cemented Atletico Madrid's lead after extending the lead for the Madrid side to 3-1 when she converted a through ball by Bárbara Latorre.

The Nigeria striker has been in phenomenal form for Atletico Madrid as her striker against Tenerife took her total for the season to 10 goals for the Madrid side.
