  • Tottenham boss Antonio Conte appeared to hint the club needed to invest more in players in the next transfer window
  • The North London club were frustrated to a 0-0 draw by German outfit Eintracht Frankfurt in the Champions League on Tuesday, October 4
  • Spurs’ fate is however still in their own hands with three group games to go

Antonio Conte has called on his team for patience after a 0-0 draw against Eintracht Frankfurt meant is side is now winless since their win over Leicester City on September 17.

The Italian tactician maintained the same squad that faced Arsenal in the North London derby on Saturday for the Frankfurt game, but they were unable to find a way past the German side.

Overall, it was an improved performance from Tottenham, with a goal being the only thing missing from the Tuesday game.

“We weren’t able last season to face two competitions,” Conte said after the game as quoted on The Sun. “Now, we have to go step by step, have patience, take time; you need to have time and to build an important squad to face a competition like the Champions League."
“If you think ‘yeah, I want to make some rotations’ and it is a bit difficult. We know this situation with the club and the club knows very well we need time and patience, to try to go step by step."
"I spoke about the transfer market, that we needed more transfer markets to reach a good level. We know this. At the same time we want to be competitive, to try to do everything.”

Tottenham’s summer investments

In the summer, Tottenham was one of the busier clubs in the market, bringing in a number of strong players including Ivan Perisic, Richarlison, Christian Romero, Yves Bissouma and Clément Lenglet (on loan from Barcelona) among others.

Because of the numerous transfers into the club, it meant players like Tanguy Ndombélé, Steven Bergwijn, Giovani Lo Celso and Harry Winks had to leave the club on loan deals.

In terms of their chances of making the last 16 in the Champions League, Tottenham’s fate is in their own hands as they lie second in a very open Group D.

Going into the final three games of the group stage, only three points separate leaders Sporting Lisbon from Marseille at the bottom.

Conte aims dig at Man United

Earlier, Sports Brief highlighted Antonio Conte’s subtle dig at Manchester United after the Red Devils shipped in six goals against Manchester City.

Conte said he prefers to be pragmatic and put his players in the best situation, stating that in England, it is easy to concede many goals if you employ a proactive style.

The gaffer was accused of not 'going for it' in the London derby on Saturday, after he brought off Richarlison and Son Heung-Min for four defensive-oriented players.
