Tottenham Hotspur head coach Antonio Conte has inadvertently taken a swipe at Manchester United during a Champions League press conference.

Conte said he prefers to be pragmatic and put his players in the best situation, stating that in England, it is easy to concede many goals if you employ a proactive style.

Man United can't seem to catch a break, and the Spurs manager becomes the latest figure in football to unintentionally direct a dig at the Red Devils for their thumping in the Manchester derby, according to the BBC.

Conte was accused of not going for it in the London derby on Saturday after he brought off Richarlison and Son Heung-Min for four defensive-oriented players.

Conte's preference to pragmatic football

Meanwhile, United were all over the place on Sunday evening, conceding two hattricks to Erling Haaland and Phil Foden.

On Tuesday, Conte was speaking to the press ahead of Tottenham's Champions League clash with Eintracht Frankfurt.

"It's important to try and have a plan. To put my layers in the best possible situation and exploit their characteristics. Otherwise, you can concede six, seven or eight goals."
"In England, that has happened a lot of times. I don't like to play open, to concede a lot of space and to concede six seven eight goals."

Both United and Spurs lost their respective derbies this past weekend and have been licking their wounds as they prepare for their European encounters.

Scholes takes swipe at United wingers

Sports Brief earlier reported on Paul Scholes directing a subtle dig at two Manchester United players in a cheeky Instagram post.

Jadon Sancho and Antony were possible targets for Scholes, who was heavily critical of the team following a 6-3 trouncing in the derby.

Scholes posted a photo of former teammates Ryan Giggs and David Beckham with the caption, Anyone remember when wingers used to help their full-backs?"
