Former Liverpool striker Luis Suarez’s next destination has been confirmed as he is set to join Brazilian club Gremio in the coming days.

Suarez, 35, has reportedly had a verbal agreement to join the club, with his current contract with Uruguay side Nacional running out.

If the deal comes to pass, Suarez will link up with former teammate Lucas Leiva, who went back to his native Brazil after leaving Lazio in the summer.

According to reports from Mirror, Suarez was urged by a ‘friend’ believed to be Lionel Messi, to make the switch.

He is reportedly currently staying with Messi for the holidays, and the recent World Cup winner was the one who convinced him to join Gremio for free.

"Suarez said that 'his friend' recommended coming to Gremio, which was the best way".Gremio football deputy Paulo Caleffi told TV Bandeirantes.

There were reports from Marca that Mexican side Cruz Azul were also ready to hijack Suarez’s services, and had offered twice as much as what Gremio had on the table.

Suarez’s impressive CV

As a player, Suarez’s records speak for itself as he has been one of the top strikers of the past decade.

He collectively has more than 500 goals for both club and country, and among the titles he has on in the last decade includes the Champions League, La Liga, Dutch Eredivisie, EFL Cup and Copa America.

More recently, he represented Uruguay at the Qatar World Cup but things did not go as planned as his nation was dumped out of the competition in the group stages.

Elsewhere, Sports Brief reported on how former Brazil coach Tite was confronted by a robber in Rio de Janeiro days after Brazil's exit from the World Cup.

The incident happened at 6 am with the thief snatching Tite's chain before confronting him about Brazil's troubles in Qatar.

Tite resigned immediately after his side were knocked out at the quarterfinal stage by 2018 finalists Croatia.
