  • Sunday Oliseh is open to coaching the Super Eagles for the second time
  • The Nigeria Football Federation are currently searching for a new coach
  • Jose Peseiro parted ways with the Super Eagles after the 2023 AFCON

Sunday Oliseh has indicated an interest in returning to coach the Super Eagles as the Nigeria Football Federation begins an intense search to find Jose Peseiro’s successor.

The NFF and Peseiro parted ways following the expiration of the coach’s contract after the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations, in which the Portuguese led Nigeria to win the silver medal at the competition in the Ivory Coast.

According to Own Goal Nigeria, Oliseh, who had previously coached the Super Eagles as well as teams in Belgium and the Netherlands, has offered his services to Nigeria, but only if the conditions are right.

“If Nigeria needs my services like we are doing today now with Ken, I will be ready to help if the conditions are right.”

The former Nigeria captain’s first cameo with the Super Eagles only lasted seven months between July 2015 and February 2016 before he was fired by the NFF.

Why did Sunday Oliseh resign?

Oliseh was seven months into his role as the Super Eagles manager when he decided to walk away from the team after lamenting in the media about his poor working conditions as the national team coach.

The former Juventus midfielder had accused the NFF of contract violations, lack of support, unpaid wages, and lack of benefits for his players, Asst. Coaches and himself during his stint as the Super Eagles coach, per Wikipedia.

Before his resignation, Oliseh had qualified Nigeria for the CHAN tournament in Rwanda, qualified Nigeria for the Group phase of the 2018 World Cup Qualifiers and had just two losses in 16 games in charge of the Super Eagles.

Jose Peseiro plans next move

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Jose Peseiro is considering his options after contract talks with the NFF to extend his stay as Super Eagles coach ended on a sour note.

The NFF was reportedly offering the Portuguese coach an $80,000 monthly contract, slightly below Peseiro's request of $120,000, which he demanded after guiding Nigeria to win silver at the 2023 AFCON.

South Africa is one of the teams considering hiring Peseiro after his departure as coach of Nigeria, as SAFA is keen to find a successor for Hugo Broos.
