Boxing is a sport of big risks and big rewards.

Saudi Arabia has hosted more mega-fights in recent years, which has pumped more money into the sports and increased fighters' paycheques.

Saul Canelo Alvarez earned $75 million for fighting twice in the assesment period.

Despite this, only three boxers have made it into Forbes' Highest-Paid Athletes for 2024 list.

Sports Brief looks at the three boxers who are on the list and where they rank among other athletes.

3 boxers on Forbes highest-paid list

Saul Alvarez

Canelo is the highest-paid boxer on the list, coming in at number 14.

The Super Middleweight Undisputed Champion of the World has earned $75 million from in-ring earnings and $10 million from sponsorships and endorsements.

Alvarez has only fought twice during the assessment period, beating both John Ryder and Jermell Charlo. Despite his high earnings, he is still $175m behind the top earner, Cristiano Ronaldo.

Anthony Joshua

The British heavyweight comes in at 16th place on the list, two places behind Canelo.

Joshua has earned $75 million from fights, and a further $8 million from income outside of the ring.

His big payday came when he earned $50 million for his bout against Francis Ngannou. AJ won that fight by knockout.

Tyson Fury

The Gypsy King is the final boxer to make it into the Top 50 on the list.

The current WBC Heavyweight champion has made $42 million from in-ring earnings and $8 million from sponsorships.

Fury only fought once during the assessment period, earning $42 million for fighting Ngannou. He comes in at number 42 on the list, slightly behind Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.

Boxing's greatest undisputed champions

There are more riches to boxing than the money fighters earn from competing in the ring.

Being a champion in the sport brings with it fame, money, and a chance to be a legend.
