Nigerian international, Victor Osimhen, is doubtful for the all-important 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against South Africa and Benin.

The Napoli striker reportedly missed club training on Wednesday due to a muscular injury and only underwent personal work in the gym.

Reports from his base have since claimed the 25-year-old will miss their Serie A clash with Fiorentina today (May 17).

It is believed that Mario Rui and Piotr Zielinski also worked separately from the rest of the squad, while Jens Lindstrom returned to the first team.

Osimhen has netted 15 league goals this season, but numerous injuries and his absence due to the 2023 AFCON tournament in January and February affected him.

Should he not be fully fit for the Fiorentina game, Giovanni Simeone or Giacomo Raspadori will start in the attack for the Partenopei, Punch reports.

There are also concerns about whether the Nigerian international will be ready for the crucial World Cup qualifiers next month.

Nigeria will take on Bafana Bafana at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on June 7, followed by a date with the Republic of Benin in Abidjan three days later.

Bright Osayi-Samuel and Samuel Chukwueze are also major doubts for the qualifiers.

The Super Eagles have started the qualifying series on a poor note, with back-to-back 1-1 draws against Lesotho and Zimbabwe.

The three-time African champions are third in Group C with two points, Rwanda top the group with four points, and South Africa is second with three points.

Nigeria failed to qualify for the 2022 edition of the Mundial after Ghana edged them to the ticket, courtesy of the away goals rule.

Gallas wants Osimhen at Chelsea

Sports Brief earlier reported that former Chelsea defender, William Gallas, gave reasons why the Blues should go for Victor Osimhen.

The Nigerian striker has been heavily linked with the English club after it emerged that he could leave the Italian side in the summer.

Club president, Aurelio de Laurentiis, hinted at the start of the year that the reigning African Footballer of the Year was on his way out.
