South Africans have been thrown into a state of deep mourning following the death of Bulelwa Mkutukana, better known as Zahara.

It is believed that due to alcoholism, Zahara had suffered liver damage, as confirmed by her manager, Oyama Dyosiba in 2019.

Her sister, Nomonde had stated that the doctors had warned Zahara to quit alcohol or she would not survive, per The Guardian:

"If [Zahara] continues drinking, she is going to die… We are making sure that there is always someone around her to monitor her so that she doesn’t start drinking again."

Although she hailed from the Eastern Cape, Zahara was a staunch supporter of Kaizer Chiefs and had publicly declared her love for Amakhosi from a young age.

Chiefs fans have taken to social media to react to her passing.

One said:

"Rest well Zahara… Thanks for the amazing songs and the support you gave Kaizer Chiefs… Khosi 4 Life!"

Another added:

"I remember watching this performance with my Wife and she cried while listening to this song. Zahara was a gift from God, and her music will live on."

A third posited:

"Sad news about the death of talented Zahara - too young to die."
