The Dutch manager, Louis van Gaal announced his team heading to the World Cup on the 17th of November 2022, cutting down his 39-man squad to the required 26.

He came out of retirement to help his team qualify for the World Cup and at least try to move them to the knockout stages, which they had missed since 2014 when Van Persie saved them with his incredibly headed goal.
