Sports Brief looks at the Most Valuable XI of South African stars using a 4-4-2 formation.

Most Valuable South African 11

Goalkeeper – Ronwen Williams

It’s no surprise that the Mamelodi Sundowns man is the most valuable keeper in the nation.

Williams has been in fine form for club and country and has also earned praise internationally.

The 32-year-old is currently valued at €1,10 million.

Left Back - Aubrey Modiba

Another Sundowns star, Modiba, is currently valued €1,40 million.

The 28-year-old has played 120 games for the Brazilians, and his performances have earned him call-ups for the national team.

iDiskiTimes reported that a rival also urged The Postman to move to a European side after his performance at AFCON.

Centre Back - Nkosinathi Sibisi

In the middle of defence is Pirates’ Sibisi.

The 28-year-old joined from Golden Arrows in 2022 and is now valued at €1,30 million.

Sibisi recently returned to the squad after being suspended after picking up a red card against his former team.

Centre Back - Siyabonga Ngezana

Partnering Sibisi in defence is the €1,30 million-valued Ngezana.

The former Kaizer Chiefs player left the country in 2023 and now plies his trade in Romania.

The 26-year-old plays for Fotbal Club FCSB, the club formerly known as FC Steaua București.

Right Back – Thapelo Morena

Sundowns have another star in defence, with Morena taking up the right-back spot.

The 30-year-old is also valued at €1,30 million, dropping 0.2 million from the last market value update.

Morena has impressed as a Masandawana player, and the club recently extended his deal by another two years, GOAL noted.

Left Winger/ Midfielder - Tashreeq Matthews

It may come as a surprise, but the 23-year-old is one of the most valuable South African players in world football, with a net worth of €1,30 million.

A former Borussia Dortmund II player, Matthews has plenty of overseas experience and hopes to use that in the local league.

The youngster was recently given a start against Sekhukhune and didn’t disappoint, grabbing a goal and an assist.

Central Midfielder - Teboho Mokoena

It’s no surprise that Mokoena is valued at €2,20 million.

Tebza is a stalwart of the Sundowns midfield and the Bafana Bafana setup, and the Pretoria-based club will be hoping he plays a huge role in their quest to win the CAF Champions League.

The 27-year-old missed the first leg of the semi-final against Esperance de Tunis as the club did not want to risk further injury to him.

Central Midfield – Neo Maema

The final Sundowns star to make up the most valuable 11 is Maema.

The 28-year-old joined the side from Royal AM, but has made a name for himself at Sundowns and is now valued at €1,40 million.

Despite his high value, Billy the Kid’s place hasn’t been guaranteed in the squad of late.

Right Winger/ Midfield - Bongokuhle Hlongwane

A former Maritzburg United player, Hlongwane now plies his trade for Minnesota United in Major League Soccer.

The 23-year-old scored 21 goals in 77 games, with his last goal coming on March 17.

Hlongwane is currently valued at €5 million.

Centre Forward -Lebo Mothiba

Valued at €1,50 million, Mothiba is one of the stranger names on the list.

The 28-year-old had never played a game for a South African top-tier side before he made the move overseas.

Mothiba plays for RC Strasbourg Alsace in Ligue 1, but is currently injured at the moment.

Centre Forward – Lyle Foster

The Burnley striker leads the line in the most valuable 11 and is the country’s most valuable player.

Currently plying his trade in the English Premier League, Foster is valued at €13 million.

The former Orlando Pirates man has already scored six goals in 37 games for The Clarets.

Foster signs new Burnley deal

Sports Brief noted how South Africa’s Foster had signed a long-term deal with Burnley Football Club.

The striker has signed a new five-year deal, which will see him remain at Turf Moor until 2028.

Foster joined the side in January and has adapted well to life in the English Premier League.
