Alexander Zverev and Coco Gauff booked their spots in the third round of the 2023 French Open after recording convincing wins on Thursday.

Zverev and Gauff won their respective second-round matches in straight sets.

Zverev needed just one hour and 58 minutes to record a 6-4, 6-2, 6-1 victory over Alex Molcan.

Zverev eases past Molcan

Last year’s French Open semifinalist blasted 42 winners and won 77 percent of his first serve points against Molcan, per Roland Garros.

Zverev managed to serve his way out of trouble, with Molcan failing to convert any of his eight break-point opportunities.

Zverev, on the other hand, won 49 percent of his receiving points and converted six of his 16 break-point chances.

Gauff beats Grabher

Gauff advanced to the third round after beating Julia Grabher, 6-2, 6-3. She needed just one hour and eight minutes to record the second-round win.

Gauff was tested early by the Austrian, facing two break points in her opening service game.

The 19-year-old American managed to hold and cruised to victory after that.

Gauff blasted 15 winners in the win against Grabher. She won 64 percent of her receiving points against the world No. 61, with Gauff converting six of her 10 break-point chances.

Gauff will next face Mirra Andreeva in the third round, per WTA. The 16-year-old Russian qualifier defeated Diane Parry 6-1, 6-2 to become the youngest player to reach the third round of the French Open since 2005.

Tsitsipas and Svitolina record wins

Sports Brief recently reported on Stefanos Tsitsipas and Elina Svitolina’s matches in the second round of the French Open.

Tsitsipas booked his place in the third round with a 6-3, 7-6 (4), 6-2 victory over Roberto Carballés Baena.

Svitolina also secured his spot in the round of 32 with a 2-6, 6-3, 6-1 win over Storm Hunter.
