Mikel Obi Speaks Fluent Hausa, Chats and Plays With Special Needs Footballers in Stunning Video

Former Nigerian international Mikel Obi was spotted having inspirational talks with a set of special needs footballers.

The former Chelsea of England midfielder, who recently retired from football, has continued to share his talent with the young ones across the African continent.

He was spotted mentoring a set of special needs footballers who were on the wheel as they played the game of football.

The 35-year-old has continued to give back to society and empowered some youths at Wave Beach in Lagos last month.

He took his non-profit foundation, the Back2Base Project, to the Northern part of Nigeria.

In viral footage on social media, fluent Hausa-speaking Mikel could be heard saying – as translated to English.

“Why did you allow them to eat you too much like this? Now that I have finished playing, I will know what to do. I will push for Federal government to help you.”

Mikel was born in Jos, the capital of Plateau State in Nigeria, and began his professional football career with the local club Plateau United.

He went on to play for top clubs abroad, including English Premier League side Chelsea and won two PL titles, four FA Cups, one UEFA Champions League title and one Europa League title amongst others.

He last played for English club Stoke City in 2021 before joining Kuwaiti outfit Kuwait SC, where he made no single appearance before announcing his retirement.

Mikel says he is not done with sports

Sports Brief earlier reported that Mikel Obi, who recently retired from professional football, says he is not done with sports.

Obi announced his retirement in September, stating he is very satisfied with what he achieved during the course of his remarkable career.

He noted that 'good things must come to an end' but added that he still wants to be involved in sports in some capacity.
