  • Carlo Ancelotti has confirmed that both Federico Valverde and Rodrygo Goes will play a part in the Champions League final against Liverpool
  • The Real Madrid boss also confirmed that he will use his preferred 4-3-3 formation as he chases his second European triumph with the Spanish side
  • Valverde and Rodrygo have been instrumental in Real Madrid’s historic match to the Champions League final that saw them record incredible comebacks

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has thrown early hints of how he will set up his side in the Champions League final. Madrid are set to play against Liverpool on May 28th in Paris.

Ancelotti has confirmed that both Federico Valverde and Rodrygo Goes will play in the final. Rodrygo has been a huge part of Real Madrid’s journey to the final. The Brazilian scored against Chelsea in the quarter-finals to take the game to extra time.

His biggest performance in a Madrid shirt to date was the quickfire brace he grabbed against Manchester City in the semifinals. The Los Blancos appeared to be over and out, but Rodrygo stepped up to complete one of the most incredible turnarounds in history.

Ancelotti to stick with his 4-3-3 formation

Speaking after thrashing Levante 6-0, Ancelotti mentioned that his side will adopt a 4-3-3 formation. It is the same formation that Ancelotti has often used in his glorious career. When Madrid are without possession, it usually changes to a 4-4-1-1.

It should be a 4-3-3, which can sometimes shift to a 4-4-2. There’s not a defined system. For example, against City we started with a 4-3-3 and then I put Modrić close to Rodri and we moved to a 4-4-1-1.

Football Espana reports that Ancelotti, however, fell short of confirming whether the duo will be in the starting eleven or they will come from the bench.

Both Valverde and Rodrygo have been used in different setups this season. Valverde has shown that he is capable of taking over the Madrid midfield once the trio of Toni Kroos, Casemiro and Luka Modric depart.

He has also been used as a winger in certain games where he has complemented the front two of Karim Benzema and Vinicius Junior. Should both Rodrygo and Valverde start, that means that one of the famous midfield three will have to sit out.

Ancelotti further confirmed that he will rotate his goalkeepers. Andriy Lunin will start in the Cadiz game with number one choice Thibaut Courtois returning for their final game of the season against Real Betis.

How Real Madrid beat Levante

Sports Brief earlier reported how Real Madrid swept aside a hapless Levante. With that heavy defeat, Levante will compete in the lower division next season.

Vinicius Junior scored the first hattrick of his career, with Luka Modric bagging a hat trick of assists in the first half.

The newly crowned La Liga Champions scored further goals from Karim Benzema, Ferland Mendy and Rodygo to take them to 84 points.
