Real Madrid may be La Liga Santander champions but that doesn’t mean they’re taking the foot off the pedal.

Los Blancos didn’t even feel sorry for Levante UD, a team needing a win to keep their hopes of avoiding relegation alive.

Madrid thumped Levante 6-0 at the Santiago Bernabéu thanks to a hattrick from Vinícius Júnior and goals from Ferland Mendy, Karim Benzema and Rodygro. Luka Modrić was in excellent form in the midfield for Madrid, notching up three assists.

Levante keeper Daniel Cárdenas saved his side's blushes, producing numerous saves and keeping the scoreline in single digits.

The duo of Benzema and Vinícius Júnior stole the show though as they produced another masterclass. Benzema score his 44th goal of the season in 44 games while Vinícius scored his 21st goal of the season. Benzema has also created 14 goals this season while Vinícius has created 15.

The victory not only crushed Levante’s spirits but also crushed their chance of staying in the top flight. Levante have now officially been relegated. Alessio Lisci's men had chances to make the scoreline look more presentable but sadly never capitalise on those.

La Liga champions Real Madrid hosts Levante UD looking to build momentum for the UEFA Champions League final

Earlier Sports Brief reported that champions Real Madrid will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they take Levante UD in La Liga Santander this evening.

Los Blancos come into the encounter on the back of a defeat to Atletico Madrid but have wrapped up the league title already. Levante have everything to play for in the encounter. Alessio Lisci’s side are bottom of the La Liga table, seven points away from safety.

They only have three games remaining in their campaign, meaning that they need to win every game to stand a chance of remaining in Spain’s top flight. Carlo Ancelloti rang the changes for the game against Atletico and many stars including Karim Benzema is expected to return to the starting line-up.
