  • La Liga boss Javier Tebas has chosen who he prefers to return to Spain, between Manchester United's Cristiano Ronaldo and Paris Saint-Germain's Lionel Messi
  • Messi is enjoying a rich vein of form for PSG this season and the Argentine genius has scored 12 goals in the 2022/23 season
  • Meanwhile, Ronaldo has had a turbulent season at the Red Devils and was recently exiled from the team after refusing to come on as a substitute

LaLiga Santander president Javier Tebas is proving to be a fan of former Barcelona superstar Lionel Messi.

35-year-old Messi has one year left on his Paris Saint-Germain contract and could leave the Parisians as a free agent, having signed a two-year contract upon his departure from Catalonia in 2021.

The little magician is currently on the radar of MLS club Inter Miami, who are set to rival Barcelona and PSG for the signature of the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner.

Speaking in a chat with Diario Ole, Tebas revealed that he would wish to see Messi return to Spain's top division before his long-term rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

"Well, I think Messi has to come back before Cristiano... You see, Messi and Ronaldo left La Liga yet we’re are still at the highest level of football, no?” Tebas said via Madrid Xtra.

Ronaldo scored a staggering 450 goals and created 32 assists in 438 appearances for Real Madrid between 2009 and 2018, before making the move to Juventus and eventually, Manchester United.

However, the Portuguese icon is having a torrid time with the Red Devils this season, scoring just three goals in 14 games in all competitions so far.

Meanwhile, his arch-nemesis Messi has been in stupendous form this campaign with 12 goals in 17 games.

Perhaps, Tebas is only making an assertion based on the current form of the deadly duo.

Tebas threatens to report EPL

Sports Brief earlier reported that the English Premier League’s spending has angered La Liga president Javier Tebas, and the 60-year-old has now threatened to report the EPL to the European governing body, UEFA.

Tebas believes the Premier League’s spending in the recently closed transfer window is unsustainable and can lead to transfer inflation if not checked by UEFA.

According to the Evening Standard, Premier League clubs had a total summer transfer window spend of over £2billion, compared to La Liga's £404million.
