It was yet another disappointment for Orlando Pirates in a continental cup final last night.

The Buccaneers were defeated by RS Berkane 5-4 on penalties in the CAF Confederations Cup final after the match ended 1-1 in regulation and extra time. This was their third loss in an African final since last winning one in 1995.

According to OptaJabu, this was ninth loss in 11 grand matches since the club last won the league back in 2012. Also, no Premier Soccer League side has been to more cup finals and returned without lifting the trophy as often as Pirates, failing 15 times since 1996.

CAF Confederations Cup final: Orlando Pirates chokes again as RS Berkane hold nerve to take trophy home

RS Berkane are the 2022 CAF Confederations Cup winners after beating Orlando Pirates 5-4 on penalties after the match ended 1-1 in normal time.

As reported by Sports Brief, Youssef El Fahli opened the scoring for the Moroccan team in the seventh minute of extra time after a Thabang Monare foul inside the box resulted in a penalty.

Thembinkosi Lorch equalised for the for the South Africans with their hopes seemingly over in the 117th minute, before missing the penalty that would prove costly.
