Inter Milan was playing their first knock-out game since the 2011/2012 season and their hesitancy in front of goal showed. Coming into the knock-out stages, Inter Milan had created 126 attempts from their six group games, but only managed to get 37 of those on target, UEFA confirmed on their website.

Despite notching up the unwanted stat, Inter Milan are not the first team to register zero shots on target in a Champions League game. Arsenal became the first team in UEFA Champions League history to not register a single shot during a game, Tribal Football confirmed.

Barcelona, Real Madrid and Liverpool themselves have also all gone through a Champions League game without getting a single shot on target. In 2018 Liverpool earned the unwanted stat against Napoli.

In 2019, Real Madrid shocked fans worldwide when they could not get a shot on target against Paris Saint-Germain. It was the first time since the 2003/2004 season that the Spanish giants failed to register a shot on target.

Barcelona achieved the unwanted feat during the current season when they lost to Bayern Munich in the group stages.

Inter Milan will be hoping for a better performance when they travel to Anfield, hoping to overturn a two-goal deficit.

Roberto Firmino, Salah score as Liverpool destroy Inter Milan at San Siro in UCL knockout

Liverpool, who are Premier League giants, have got one leg in the quarterfinal of the UEFA Champions League when they beat Inter Milan 2-0 at the San Siro on Wednesday night, 16 February.

Inter Milan would have themselves to blame for losing this Champions League round of 16 first leg encounter against Liverpool, as they had many chances in the first half, Sports Brief earlier reported.

The hosts started the match impressively with Edin Dzeko and Ivan Perisic tormenting Liverpool's defence with a flurry of attacks, but the Italian team were unable to get the breakthrough.
