Ghana Midfielder Elisha Owusu Completes Move to French Club AJ Auxerre

Black Stars midfielder Elisha Owusu has joined French Ligue 1 side AJ Auxerre in the winter transfer window.

The French-born Ghanaian signed a two-and-a-half year deal to join Auxerre from Belgium outfit KAA Gent.

Auxerre confirmed the signing of the midfielder on their official website as the club battles for survival in the second half of the campaign.

"A new international joins the ranks of Auxerre! AJA is pleased to announce the signing of Elisha Owusu for two and a half years. The defensive midfielder, who will wear number 42, arrives from La Gantoise (Belgium), the club in which he has been playing since 2019," wrote the club.

Owusu started his career in France with giants Olympique Lyonnais before moving to Belgium to play for Gent.

He makes a return after three years in the Belgium First Division A league.

His outstanding performances earned him a place in Ghana's squad for the World Cup in Qatar.

Although he failed to make an appearance at the tournament, Owusu played a key role during the World Cup play-offs against Nigeria.

He joins compatriot Gideon Mensah at Auxerre.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that fans of the Ghana senior national team, the Black Stars, have taken to social media to sing praises of midfielder Elisha Owusu, after his outstanding display against Switzerland in the friendly on Thursday.

The KAA Gent player has been the star for the team in the first half, as the Black Stars headed into the break goalless.

Owusu's ability to win and distribute the ball effortlessly has seen him earn positive reviews from social media users.

Owusu named in World Cup squad

Otto Addo has announced his final 26-man squad for the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

At a press conference in Accra, the 47-year-old named his team with several of the notable names making his squad.

Conspicuously missing are Joseph Paintsil of KRC Genk, Majeed Ashimeru of Anderlecht and Felix Afena-Gyan.
