Former Black Stars goalkeeper Fatau Dauda is backing Ghana's home-based team to win the upcoming CHAN tournament in Algeria.

The Black Galaxies as they are known are making a return to the competition after edging rivals Nigeria in the qualifiers.

Ghana, two times finalist of the tournament, have been drawn in Group C alongside holders Morocco, newcomers Madagascar and Sudan.

Ahead of the commencement of the tournament on January 13, 2023, Dauda who was a part of the team that finished second in 2009 believes the current squad has what it takes to win the Championship of African Nations.

“It's possible if the boys can come together, believe in themselves, listen to the coaches’ instructions because football is now tactics; you listen to what your coaches will teach you to go and play on the field,” he told Joy Sports as quoted by Footballghana.com
“Definitely they will have some information from the teams they are playing, definitely they have video analyst; they will analyse some teams they are playing against.
“So, if they are determined, they can; I mean win it because they've been in the finals before.”

The Black Galaxies are undefeated in preparations, beating Egypt's U20 team, Al Ahly and drawing against hosts Algeria.

The team will face Mozambique in their final preparatory game on Tuesday.

Awako suffers injury ahead of CHAN

Earlier, Sports Brief reported that Gladson Awako, the captain of Black Galaxies, has suffered a knock which could rule him out of Ghana's opening game at the CHAN tournament against Madagascar.

The Hearts of Oak star picked up an injury in Ghana's Pre-CHAN friendly against Algeria on Saturday in Algiers.

Awako was withdrawn from the game after just 25 minutes and was replaced by Sylvester Simba as Ghana held Algeria to a goalless draw.

Black Galaxies arrive in Egypt

The home-based national team of Ghana, the Black Galaxies have arrived in Egypt for pre-camping ahead of the 2022 CHAN tournament in Algeria.

The team made up of 25 players will step up preparations in Cairo, where the Black Galaxies will engage in a series of friendlies.

Coach Annor Walker, who is determined to make a mark at the African Nations Champions started camping the player at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence three weeks ago.
