This will come as a big blow to Ghana, as the 21-year-old also had the option of representing the Black Stars or England but has chosen the country of his birth.

Frimpong will likely pay his first game for the Netherlands against Denmark later this month, before facing Germany three days later in friendly games.

Frimpong signed for Leverkusen in January 2021 from Scottish giants Celtic for a fee around £11.5million but the BayArena club will let him go if they receive an offer not less than £25m.

The young defender has registered two goals and laid on eight assists in 31 games this campaign, and is on the radar of the biggest club in Germany, Bayern Munich.

Who is Jeremie Frimpong?

Born in Amsterdam to Ghanaian parents, Frimpong and his family moved to England when he was seven years old. Frimpong is eligible to play for Ghana, Netherlands and England.

However, he has already featured for the Netherlands Under-19 and Under-20 teams.

The lateral defender is not only attracting interests from clubs, but also the Ghana national team with the Football Association in talks with the Dutch-born player.

Ghana FA in Talks With English-Born Forward Over Nationality Switch
