Frenkie de Jong can’t get away from Barcelona’s efforts to get him to leave.

The Dutch international has recently had to deal with a change of playing position, a potential transfer to Manchester United and attempts to get him to accept a pay cut.

While de Jong has been defiant, he’s now had to contend with the Barcelona president also getting involved.

As reported by 90 Mins, Joan Laporta explained that they wanted to keep the midfielder at the club, but that he had to take a wage cut.

Laporta explained that this was to fit in with the club’s new wage structure.

"He wants to stay and we want him to stay. That is the most important thing. What's clear is that we have a new salary scale and all the players have to fit into it,” he said.

De Jong is already owed money from deferred wages and does not want to accept a further wage cut.

Barcelona’s actions have drawn a lot of criticism lately. Gary Neville advised de Jong to take legal action against the Blaugrana, while La Liga president Javier Tebas warned Barca that they could not force de Jong into accepting a pay cut, Football Espana reported.

Javier Tebas is not happy with FC Barcelona.

The La Liga President has been weighing in on the club’s handling of Frenkie de Jong, and the recent options they put forward towards the Dutch international.

The La Liga head noted that Barcelona know the rules and responsibilities they needed to meet as employers and couldn’t be pressuring a player into accepting anything.

Former Manchester United defender, Gary Neville has urged Dutch midfielder, Frenkie de Jong, to take legal against Barcelona following the Spanish giant’s refusal to pay him his owed salaries.

The 25-year-old midfielder is opposed to leaving Barcelona despite the club agreeing on a fee of £70m deal for his transfer to Old Transfer as he wants the £17m the Catalan giants owe him.

According to the Daily Mail, Neville criticized Barcelona on social media for not paying their current players with the inflow of cash.
