As reported by Barca Universal, the Blaugrana recently told de Jong that he had two options. One was that he could accept a transfer to Manchester United, while the other was that he remains at Barcelona, but takes a significant wage cut.

De Jong is refusing to accept either option, having already taken a wage cut.

Coach Xavi Hernandez has also changed de Jong’s position in pre-season, with the midfielder now occupying a central defensive role. The move is seen as another attempt to force de Jong to leave the Spanish outfit.

Gary Neville has been critical of Barcelona’s antics and advised de Jong to take legal action, and now Tebas has weighed in on the matter as well, Football Espana reported.

The La Liga head noted that Barcelona know the rules and responsibilities they needed to meet as employers and couldn’t be pressuring a player into accepting anything. He added that this was something that violated the law, reason, and ethics.

Barca are currently in the United States where they are preparing for the new season but are planning to part with at least seven players when they return to Spain.

Former Manchester United defender, Gary Neville has urged Dutch midfielder Frenkie de Jong to take legal against Barcelona following the Spanish giant’s refusal to pay him his owed salaries.

The 25-year-old midfielder is opposed to leaving Barcelona despite the club agreeing on a fee of £70m deal for his transfer to Old Transfer as he wants the £17m the Catalan giants owe him.

According to the Daily Mail, Neville criticized Barcelona on social media for not paying their current players with the inflow of cash.
