New CAF technical and development committee member Lucas Radebe is excited by his role with the organisation and is raring to go.

The former Kaizer Chiefs, Leeds United and Bafana Bafana defender is one of several football legends that have been roped in by the continent's football governing body. Their main job will be to interact with national football federations across the continent to help grow at grassroots level beyond just the men's game.

He told iDiski Times:

"The aim is to get involved with local organisation, which [for me], would be with SAFA just so that I can give back. We are looking at how we can develop football, not looking at just men's football, but also women's football.

"We have a lot of work to do... how we can develop women's football as well as school football. CAF has never gotten involved in school football... just local organisations. This will be an extension of [CAF president] Patrice Motsepe's project."

In May, Radebe lambasted SAFA's leadership and demanded change to its leadership ahead of the elective congress that saw Danny Jordaan reelected as the organisation's president, as was reported by Sport24.

Bafana Bafana great Lucas Radebe appointed to top CAF post, disappointed by being overlooked in South Africa

Bafana Bafana's legendary former captain Lucas Radebe will have an important say in African football matters from now on.

As reported by Sports Brief, the former Kaizer Chiefs and Leeds United rock was nominated to CAF's technical and development committee alongside other legends like Cameroons Jeremi Njitap and Senegal's Khalilou Fadiga.

However, Radebe wasn't an entirely happy man, having a go at South African football authorities like SAFA for overlooking the input of former players, or discouraging them from participating in the discourse because of politics.
