The five-time Ballon d'Or winner attacked the club and the manager Erik ten Hag. Ronaldo has had a difficult time under the former Ajax manager.

He failed to report to preseason training and has subsequently struggled for regular game time. Manchester United started the season lethargically with back-to-back defeats against Brighton and Brentford.

Ten Hag has since managed to steady the ship amidst other blips. Arsenal, meanwhile, has been in contrasting form, with the Gunners having a five-point lead over defending champions Manchester City.

Ronaldo told Morgan that he would love to see Arsenal win the league but quickly added that his first priority would be for Manchester United to win it.

Ronaldo has three Premier League titles from his first stint at Manchester United under Sir Alex Ferguson.

United ready to terminate Ronaldo's contract

It is highly unlikely he will remain at the club after January. Sports Brief had earlier reported that Manchester United have set in motion a process to fire Cristiano Ronaldo following his bombshell interview with Piers Morgan this week.

It is understood that the club are planning on tearing up Ronaldo's £500,000-a-week deal and want the Portuguese to leave the club without a cent of his remaining sum.

Ronaldo appeared in the surprise interview and dropped bombshell after bombshell, touching on different topics about the club and his career in general. He launched a scathing attack on the club owners, United manager Erik ten Hag, and former teammate and United legend Wayne Rooney, evoking mixed reactions from football fans worldwide.
