Casemiro's stats have always been incredible, as evidenced during Real Madrid's European dominance. Despite winning his fifth Champions League title last season, the Brazilian was looking for a new challenge, and he chose to join his two former teammates in Manchester. The defensive midfielder was a surprise signing in the summer after Erik ten Hag was unable to secure his other targets.

Casemiro was the deepest and most combative member of one of the most decorated and celebrated midfield units in history, winning 18 trophies in nine years in Madrid alongside Toni Kroos and Luka Modric.

He is widely regarded as one of the world's and his generation's best defensive midfielders. Erik ten Hag brought the Brazilian to Old Trafford for a reason. During his first games with the Red Devils, he assisted former Real Madrid teammate Cristiano Ronaldo to score the game-winning goal, which was also the Portuguese superstar's 700th club goal.

Since then, the five-time Champions League winner has proven his mettle in Erik ten Hag's midfield. The tank, as referred by pundits, put in one of his best performances in the Premier League when Manchester United defeated Tottenham Hotspur on 19th October. He also scored his first goal for Manchester United with a dramatic headed equaliser against Chelsea in stoppage time at Stamford Bridge.

According to sources, he has won 33 tackles since joining United. On top of that, he has had four blocks and 31 aerial duels.

While in possession, he is always calm, composed, and controlled, constantly breaking up any opposition's attacks. The defensive midfielder is also very confident on the ball and can use his passing ability to dictate a game.

Casemiro's offensive stats at Manchester United

Casemiro is well worth the money the Red Devils paid for him. Apart from his defensive abilities, it is clear that the Brazilian will contribute significantly to the Red Devils' goal-scoring opportunities. He already has a goal and an assist, and his first goal was crucial in securing a point for United at Stamford Bridge.

He makes such a difference in and out of possession, and he gives the team an extra edge and helps them dominate. He can also read the game and assist the players by directing them to the appropriate positions.

Casemiro is best known for his ability to provide balance to his teams by defensively supporting his more offensive-minded teammates and accurately distributing the ball to them after regaining possession. He is also a well-rounded midfielder with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area, consistent distribution, and the ability to get forward with his off-ball runs or start attacks with his passing.

However, the star has not been consistent since joining the English side, as evidenced by his absence in the game against Aston Villa. The league has some better CDM who have made significant offensive contributions and even scored goals in addition to breaking up plays. Bruno Guimares of Newcastle City and Partey of Arsenal are two defensive midfielders who are currently outperforming Manchester United's star.

The best CDM in the Premier League currently

Guimares' defensive abilities are equal to his offensive abilities, as he has excellent passing and shooting techniques. Currently, this season (November 2022), the Brazilian international has three goals and two assists for Newcastle United in the Premier League.

Arsenal's Ghanian international has also been an important part of Mikel Arteta's team, which has had a strong start to the 2022-23 league season. The Gunners have not lost in the nine games that the 29-year-old defensive midfielder has played this season. In the league, Thomas Partey has also scored two spectacular goals.

Casemiro will look to jump from his poor performance in the Carabao Cup against Villa on Thursday. If he is rested for that game, his next opportunity to get back on track will come the following Sunday when the Red Devils travel to Fulham.

Is Casemiro better than Kante?

Quick reactions, excellent positional sense, ability to read the game and good anticipation enable the Brazilian to excel in a holding midfield role in front of the defence, cutting out counter-attacks and shielding the backline. N'Golo Kante can play defensive midfield, but his skill set is better suited to being a box-to-box player, not to mention his recent string of injuries.

Casemiro has been dubbed a "destroyer" by the media for his energetic and combative style of play and his tactical awareness and abilities as a ball winner, allowing him to cover ground, trackback, and press opponents. Casemiro's on-field stats, exemplified by his fierce challenges and stamina, have earned him the moniker "The Tank."
