This support is particularly fueled by the desire for consistency, especially considering his close collaboration with former coach Jose Peseiro during his 20-month tenure.

However, amidst the palpable air of scepticism, the Communication Director of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), Ademola Olajire, has shed light on why Finidi was ultimately chosen as manager over the plethora of other candidates vying for the role.

Why Finidi was named Super Eagles coach

In an interview reported by HotSports Nigeria, the communications director emphasised Finidi's impressive track record as a coach and his experience working with the Super Eagles as an assistant coach, making him the standout choice for the job.

Furthermore, he highlighted Finidi's 20-month experience as an assistant coach with the Super Eagles under Peseiro as a key factor.

Olajire also pointed out Finidi's achievement of winning the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) title with Enyimba in his second season as coach, and his current progress towards retaining the title in his third season, as another highly considered factor.

The federation’s communication chief concluded by commending Finidi's decision to return to Nigeria and start his coaching career with an NPFL club, Enyimba.

Finidi’s first task as coach will be to secure a crucial victory in the FIFA World Cup qualification series against South Africa.

Finidi nominates foreign coaches as assistants

Sports Brief in another report stated that the coach of the Nigerian team, Finidi, has nominated three foreign candidates for assistant roles within the Super Eagles.

The 53-year-old has recently compiled a shortlist of coaches whom he would be keen to collaborate with.

Finidi's list also includes Daniel Amokachi, as a second assistant coach, and Abiodun Baruwa, as the goalkeeper trainer.
