True to their word, the manager has been allowed to create a shortlist of candidates he would like to work with as assistants and a report has now surfaced detailing the identities of the individuals on Finidi's shortlist.

Finidi’s assistant coach's shortlist

According to a report from OwnGoalNigeria, coach Finidi's shortlist includes three foreigners who are expected to serve as his match analyst, first assistant coach, and physical trainer.

The list also features former Super Eagles goalkeeper, Abiodun Baruwa, who is expected to work as the goalkeeper trainer, and wraps up with the inclusion of former Nigeria forward, Daniel Amokachi, who is expected to be one of his second assistant coaches.

The report concludes by stating that the NFF will carefully consider Finidi's choices for assistants and will hold discussions with the respective individuals regarding their salaries and payment structure.

The NFF are expected to provide a prompt response regarding the submitted names, as the Nigerian team has barely a month before their crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualification fixtures against South Africa and the Republic of Benin.

Finidi responds to his critics

Sports Brief in another report stated that Nigeria's coach, Finidi, has issued a promise to his critics ahead of the June international window.

The former Ipswich Town star's appointment as manager has been met with a palpable wave of scepticism across Nigeria’s footballing community.

In an interview, Finidi appealed to fans not to judge him based on his previous results and promised to make amends in the upcoming games of the Super Eagles.
