Borussia Dortmund beat Atletico Madrid 4-2 at the Signal Iduna Park to overturn the first leg 2-1 loss in Spain in the UEFA Champions League quarter-final.

The performances of Jadon Sancho and Marcel Sabitzer caught the eye of the fans who claimed Manchester United are missing such in their team amidst their struggles this season.

Sports Brief looks at the top five ex-United players thriving this season.

Ex Man United stars thriving this season

1. Cristiano Ronaldo

The five-time Ballon d'Or winner was pushed out after an issue with Erik ten Hag. He joined Al-Nassr in Saudi Arabia. Per Transfermarkt, he is top of the scorer's chart, scoring 29 goals in 25 games and providing 10 assists for teammates.

2. Angel Di Maria

The Argentine spent only one season at Old Trafford before giving up on his United career and joining Paris Saint-Germain. He spent seven successful seasons in Paris. He had a one-season spell at Juventus before returning to his former club, Benfica. He has 16 goals and 13 assists for the club, which is currently in the Europa League quarter-final.

3. Romelu Lukaku

The Belgian forward is on Chelsea's books but on loan at AS Roma. He spent two seasons at United between 2017 and 2019. He has 18 goals in all competitions this season, while ten Hag admitted the lack of strikers is costing the Red Devils.

4. Jadon Sancho

The English forward left Man Utd on loan after refusing to apologise to Ten Hag after responding to the manager's call out after the 3-1 loss to Arsenal in September. He is still a United player but has not quite thrived at Dortmund, with four goals and assists in 14 games.

Per ESPN, he is the first Red Devils player who will play in the Champions League semi-final after helping Dortmund qualify last night. This has ridiculed the club and attracted trolls from rivals.

5. Marcel Sabitzer

The Austrian midfielder played a season on loan at Old Trafford and performed fairly but was not retained. Casemiro's decline and injuries have made that decision a wrong one. He has 14 goal contributions, six of which came in the UCL.

Ronaldo accused of trolling Man United

Sports Brief reported on Ronaldo's tweet after Manchester United lost to Chelsea. The tweet caused a stir online, with fans accusing him of mocking his former club after the defeat.

Cole Palmer scored two late goals to help the Blues win 4-3. The Portuguese's post came moments before the penalty that made it 3-3.
