  • Cavin Johnson has failed to improve Kaizer Chiefs since being named the interim coach
  • Amakhosi have lost their last two matches in the Premier Soccer League in recent weeks
  • Sports Brief has highlighted some reasons Johnson should be sacked and replacements

Kaizer Chiefs are underperforming under their caretaker coach, Cavin Johnson, and sit eighth on the Premier Soccer League table.

Several Amakhosi fans have been clamouring for a change in the dugout as they have not been the same team since the departure of Molefi Ntseki.

Sports Brief takes a look at reasons the former Al Ahly assistant coach should be sacked ahead of the remaining seven games this season.

Why Kaizer Chiefs should sack Johnson

1. Poor run of form

Kaizer Chiefs has recently become one of the worst teams in the league in terms of form. The Glamour Boys have just one win in their last nine games.

They lost their last two league games against Stellenbosch and Chippa United, with the former being at the FNB Stadium.

With a short break, a new interim coach could end their poor run of form and get them back to winning ways.

2. Lack of solution to players' problem

Johnson has always given different excuses about his players' performance for the last five games.

The last one is that they need to be more calm in the opponent's box. Despite identifying the players' main problems, the South African manager has failed to find a solution to them.

3. Continental football

Amakhosi's hopes of finishing in the CAF Champions League spot are fading due to their recent performance in the DStv Premiership.

Chiefs are nine points behind second-placed Stellenbosch and seven points behind bitter rivals and third-placed Orlando Pirates.

The Soweto-based club needs to make a change to increase its chances of qualifying for one of the continental competitions next season.

Possible replacements for Johnson on interim basis

1. Arthur Zwane

The former Kaizer Chiefs head coach has been without a first-team job since being relegated to the development side by Amakhosi in June 2023.

Giving him the job on an interim till the end of the season could save them from a disappointing finish.

2. Benni McCarthy

The former Cape Town City manager could be the missing piece for Kaizer Chiefs this season. The Bafana Bafana legend has been doing well since being appointed Manchester United's first-team forward coach.

He is also one of the names linked to the vacant permanent coaching job at Naturena.

3. Stuart Baxter

The former South Africa national team coach is another tactician who could be a perfect replacement for Johnson at Kaizer Chiefs.

The English manager is unemployed after being sacked by Helsingborg. He had two spells with the Glamour Boys, leading them to their first CAF Champions League Final in 2021.

Johnson furious after Stellenbosch Loss

Sports Brief earlier reported that Cavin Johnson expressed dissatisfaction with Chiefs after their 1-0 loss against Stellenbosch FC.

In the DStv Premiership game, Devin Titus netted the solitary goal in first-half stoppage time, extending Stellies' unbeaten streak.
