  • It's always fine for rival fans to boo and whistle at opponents
  • But sometimes the opposition players' talent is too huge to ignore
  • Here are the Barcelona stars who were applauded by Madrid fans

During Spain's match against Brazil when Lamine Yamal was substituted, the Santiago Bernabeu stadium honoured the Barcelona player with a standing ovation.

The 16-year-old produced a remarkable performance at Real Madrid's home stadium, contributing to Spain's 3-3 draw against the South American nation.

Even in his youth, Yamal is achieving feats that even the world's greatest player, Lionel Messi, couldn't at his age.

However, he's not the first Barcelona player to receive such adoration after an outstanding performance on rival turf—three other Barça players have experienced similar receptions at the famed Bernabeu.

Here, Sports Brief revisits these rare instances when Real Madrid fans applauded Barcelona's talent on their home ground.

Barcelona stars who got Bernabeu ovation

Ronaldinho

In 2005, Ronaldinho held the title of the world's best player, a recognition even acknowledged by Real Madrid fans who applauded the Brazilian maestro following his exceptional performance at their home stadium.

The forward mesmerised the Los Blancos' defence with his dribbling skills, scoring two magnificent goals to propel Barcelona to a resounding 3-0 victory, ESPN reported.

This display of sportsmanship highlighted the mutual respect between Ronaldinho and the Real Madrid faithful, showcasing the transcendent power of football to unite even bitter rivals in appreciation of exceptional talent.

Andres Iniesta

In 2015, Iniesta notched a sensational goal during Barcelona's 4-0 victory at the Bernabeu, leaving Real Madrid stunned on their home turf, per the BBC.

As the midfield maestro made his way off the pitch, to the surprise of many, the entire stadium erupted into applause, a rare gesture that may have been influenced by his iconic winning goal in the 2010 World Cup final.

Diego Maradona

In June 1983, at the Santiago Bernabeu stadium, Argentine superstar Maradona, showcasing his prowess near the peak of his abilities, executed a breathtaking goal.

Receiving the ball, he skillfully evaded the goalkeeper with a deft touch, though it initially seemed heavy. With quick reflexes, he regained control of his left foot.

Despite defender Juan Jose's attempt to intercept, Maradona's skilful manoeuvring left him helpless, resulting in a collision with the goalpost. Following the goal, the Real Madrid fans showed their respect by applauding the legendary player.

Yamal's market value compared to EPL stars

Sports Brief recently reported on the Premier League stars with lesser market value than Yamal.

The Barcelona youngster is now worth €75 million after impressing for the Spanish giants this season.

Among the players who have lesser value than the teen star in England are Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, and Bruno Fernandes.
