South Africa coach, Hugo Broos, has sent a warning to African teams after Bafana Bafana drew 3-3 against Algeria in a nail-biting friendly encounter.

Although Broos' team didn't win any of their two friendly matches, they showed they are still a formidable team that reached the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations semi-finals.

South Africa were held to a frustrating 1-1 draw by 164th-ranked side Andorra in their first of two friendly matches. Broos fielded a much-changed side, leaving veterans like Themba Zwane and Ronwen Williams on the bench.

On Tuesday, March 26, they produced a much better display. Despite going behind early in the first half, they roared back to take a 2-1 lead courtesy of Zwane's well-taken brace, per SuperSport.

The two sides went back and forth, but no one could find the winner in an epic encounter.

After the game, Broos had a message for the rest of the continent.

"We played against a strong team, but I don't think there was much difference between the quality of our game and Algeria's quality," he said via KickOff.
"That means we have made a lot of progress in the last months. We showed it already at AFCON, but I think today we did it again, and I think we don't have to be afraid anymore of any team in Africa."

In June, South Africa play Nigeria and Zimbabwe in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

Broos' record as South Africa coach

Sports Brief earlier analysed Broos' record as South Africa coach following his 32nd game in charge.

Since he was appointed in 2021, he has won 16, drawn 10, and lost six. He is hoping to take South Africa to the 2026 World Cup in North America.

Sports Brief earlier reported on Broos addressing the rumours linking him with a sensational move to the Tunisian national team.

The reports emerged hours before Bafana Bafana played Algeria, but he assured South Africans that he was staying put in his role.
