Belgian manager, Hugo Broos, has broken his silence concerning reports linking him with the Tunisian national team job after Bafana Bafana's draw against Algeria on Tuesday.

The South African national team coach reportedly agreed to succeed Jalal El Kadri as the Carthage Eagles' new coach.

What led to El Kadri's sack was their poor performance at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast, in which they were knocked out of the competition in the group stage.

After South Africa's 1-1 draw against Algeria at the Nelson Mandela Stadium, Broos confirmed there is no contact between him and the Tunisian Football Federation, according to a report by iDiskiTimes.

"There is no contact between me and the Tunisian Federation," he said.
"If I believe the Tunisian media, I am a candidate. If I leave South Africa, the Federation will decide, for me it’s just rumours."

The former Club Brugge coach further assured South Africans he would still be Bafana Bafana's coach in their 2026 FIFA qualifiers in June.

"There’s no contact or discussion between me and Tunisia. It’s just the rumour. I’m one of the candidates – according to Tunisian media, but it’s not official. I will be with Bafana Bafana in June [FIFA World Cup qualifiers]," he added.

South Africa's next game would be against the Super Eagles of Nigeria and Zimbabwe in the World Cup qualifiers in June.

Broos speaks on meeting with Khoza

Sports Brief earlier reported on Broos' meeting with Irvin Khoza, the Premier Soccer League chairman, shortly before the international break.

The Belgian manager said he had wanted to meet with the football chief for some time due to tension between clubs and the South African national team.
