The England international had a tame penalty saved, missed a sitter, got in the way of a teammate’s goal-bound shot, and blasted a free kick horribly wide.

While his overall performance was poor, social media has paid particular attention to his free kick.

As noted by Sports Illustrated, Sterling was booed by Chelsea’s supporters after he blasted his shot well wide of the goal.

Thankfully, it didn’t prove too costly, as Chelsea won the game 4-2 and progressed to the semi-final of the tournament.

Social media roasts Raheem

While Chelsea boss Mauricio Pochettino defended the player after the game, social media had a field day as fans zeroed in on the player’s poor attempt.

Many shared memes of where Sterling’s ball eventually landed, with outer space being the popular answer.

Some have cheekily reported that Sterling’s shot caused some damage to property or ended up hitting another person.

Domino’s Pizza, who are known for using their social media to poke fun at some sporting moments, also used the medium to troll Sterling.

The pizzeria claimed that Sterling’s shot landed on the roof of one of their branches.

Other social media posts focused on how way off Sterling’s shot was, comparing it to other videos of wayward shots.

Sterling argues with Cole Palmer during game

Sports Brief also reported how Sterling was spotted arguing with Cole Palmer during Chelsea’s game against Leicester City.

The two sides met in the FA Cup, with both teams looking to book their place in the semi-finals of the world’s oldest cup competition.

While Chelsea won the game, they could have had more if Sterling allowed Palmer to take a penalty in the 26th minute of the game.
