Manchester City vs. Arsenal Preview

Form Guide

Arsenal will head into their showdown with Manchester City boasting a rich vein of form.

The Gunners have won each of their last eight league matches, including a dramatic 2-1 victory over Brentford on Matchday 28.

Kai Havertz came to Arsenal's rescue, scoring a late goal in the 86th minute to give all three points to the Gunners, per Eurosport.

If there's one team that can stop Arsenal's winning run, it's got to be the defending champions. They have not lost in their last 25 league matches at the Etihad Stadium, recording 20 wins and five draws during that stretch.

Manchester City have not tasted defeat in their last 11 league games, recording nine wins and two draws during that span.

They are coming off a 2-0 victory over Newcastle United in the quarter-finals of the FA Cup.

Recent Head-to-Head Matchups

Arsenal defeated Manchester City 1-0 in their last league meeting back in October, with Gabriel Martinelli scoring the match-winner in the 86th minute.

It was Mikel Arteta's first league win against City and the Gunners' first Premier League victory against the reigning champs since December 2015.

They have struggled, however, when facing Man City in the Premier League at the Etihad Stadium. They have lost their last seven league meetings in Manchester, with City outscoring Arsenal 21-4 during that stretch.

Their last league meeting at the Etihad in 2023 ended in a 4-1 win for the English champions. Kevin De Bruyne scored twice in that clash.

Team News

The concerning news for Manchester City heading into the international break is Kevin De Bruyne's groin injury.

He missed City's FA Cup quarter-final win over Newcastle United on Saturday and he will not take part in Belgium's upcoming international friendlies because of it, per The Standard.

Pep Guardiola eased fans' concerns' though, saying that he would be back in action soon. Fortunately for City, there's a long break before they face Arsenal at the end of the month.

He also shared some good news about Ederson, who has been out since picking up an injury in the draw against Liverpool.

Guardiola said the Brazilian goalkeeper has been getting better, and he's hopeful Ederson will be ready after the international break. His status for the game against the Gunners remains uncertain, though.

Arsenal's main injury concern ahead of the match against Manchester City is Gabriel Martinelli.

He suffered a cut on his foot in the game against Sheffield United and will miss Brazil's upcoming friendlies against England and Spain as a result.

Thomas Partey has recovered from a thigh injury, coming off the bench in the games against Sheffield United and Brentford.

He has decided to skip Ghana's upcoming international matches to regain full fitness ahead of Arsenal's final stretch of games.

Writer's Prediction

Manchester City and Arsenal cancel each other in a 1-1 draw.

FA Cup semis draw

Sports Brief also recently reported on the FA Cup semi-final draw after the quarter-finals were concluded.

Manchester City will face Chelsea while Manchester United will lock horns with Coventry City in the semis.

City remained on course to defend their FA Cup title after sinking Newcastle with a Bernardo Silva double.
