2024 FA Cup Last 8 Matchups

Manchester United vs. Liverpool

The pick of the quarter-final ties after the draw was made on Wednesday is the blockbuster showdown between Manchester United and Liverpool.

The two sides secured that much-anticipated clash at Old Trafford in the last 8 after recording contrasting victories in the fifth round.

United had to work hard in their win over Nottingham Forest, needing an 89th-minute strike from Casemiro to record a 1-0 victory.

Liverpool, on the other hand, eased past Southampton, with their teenagers inspiring them to a 3-0 win.

Lewis Koumas opened the scoring in the 44th minute before Jayden Danns sealed the victory with a brace in the second half, per the BBC.

Manchester City vs. Newcastle United

Manchester City's bid to retain their FA Cup title remained right on track after they crushed Luton Town 6-2 in the fifth round. Erling Haaland wreaked havoc in that contest, scoring five goals in the rout, per CNN.

The defending champs will next face Newcastle United in an all-Premier League affair. The Magpies survived a tough test from Blackburn Rovers, beating them 4-3 in a penalty shootout on Tuesday.

City and Newcastle's last meeting back in January was an instant classic, with Pep Guardiola's men escaping with a 3-2 victory.

Chelsea vs. Leicester City

Chelsea booked their place in the last 8 after beating Leeds United 3-2 on Wednesday. Conor Gallagher was the hero for the Blues in that fifth-round tie, scoring the match-winner in the 90th minute.

They will next face Leicester City in the quarter-finals at Stamford Bridge. The Foxes sealed their place in the last 8 after beating Bournemouth 1-0 on Tuesday, with Abdul Fatawu scoring the game's lone goal in extra time.

Wolves vs. Coventry City

Wolves reached the FA Cup quarter-finals for the first time since the 2018-19 season after beating Brighton 1-0 on Wednesday.

Mario Lemina opened the scoring in the second minute, with that 1-0 lead holding up until the end of the contest.

Next up for Wolves is a quarter-final clash with Coventry City at the Molineux. The Sky Blues eased past Maidstone United 5-0 in the fifth round. Ellis Simms nabbed a hat-trick and Fabio Tavares scored a late brace for the hosts.

Onana stars in FA Cup win

Sports Brief recently reported on Onana's masterclass against Nottingham Forest.

The Cameroonian goalkeeper was superb in the fifth round as he recorded a clean sheet in the FA Cup tie.

His performance sent United fans into a frenzy as they booked a spot in the last eight.
