Manchester City vs. Chelsea Preview

Form Guide

Manchester City will head into their showdown with Chelsea in excellent form.

The reigning champs have won each of their last six league matches, including a 2-0 victory over Everton last Saturday.

Erling Haaland scored a double for City, who returned to the top of the table briefly.

Chelsea are coming off a much-needed 3-1 win over Crystal Palace last weekend, which helped snap their two-game losing streak in the league.

Manchester City remain unbeaten in the league at Etihad Stadium this season, recording eight wins and three draws.

Chelsea are ninth in the league in points scored in away matches with 16, recording five wins, one draw, and six losses in their travels this campaign.

Head-to-Head Matchups

Chelsea and Manchester City's first meeting this season was a high-scoring affair, with the two sides cancelling each other out in a thrilling 4-4 draw.

Cole Palmer helped the Blues avoid a seventh straight defeat against City, scoring a late penalty in second-half injury time, per Sky Sports.

Prior to that draw, City had won each of their last four league meetings with Chelsea. All of those matches ended in a 1-0 victory for Pep Guardiola's side.

Team News

The good news for Manchester City is that two of their key players are back from injury. Haaland made his much-awaited return to the lineup against Everton after being sidelined with a foot injury for weeks.

He picked up right where he left off, scoring a brace late in the second half to hand City all three points.

Kevin De Bruyne also has been outstanding since returning from a hamstring injury last month, recording two goals and seven assists in the seven matches he has played in all competitions.

The injury bug, however, struck City again during midweek. Jack Grealish, Bernardo Silva, and Josko Gvardiol picked up injuries during the match against Copenhagen and are set to face spells on the sidelines, per Goal.com.

The Blues also have their own injury concerns heading into the City clash. Thiago Silva and Malo Gusto were both taken off in the game against Crystal Palace due to fitness issues.

Their status for Saturday's game remains uncertain.

Writer's Prediction

Manchester City extend their winning streak with a 3-1 victory over Chelsea.

De Bruyne on fire for Manchester City

Sports Brief recently reported De Bruyne's outstanding displays for Manchester City this year.

He continued his excellent form in the Champions League win over Copenhagen.

He scored the opening goal and issued two assists in City's 3-1 victory.
