Manchester United youngster Kobbie Mainoo has enjoyed a meteoric rise to prominence since bursting onto the scene under Erik ten Hag.

Mainoo has formed a key part of ten Hag's midfield in recent weeks, with the academy graduate repaying the manager's faith in him with impressive performances.

The teenage sensation was one of the biggest talking points during United's clash with Luton Town on Sunday, February 18, helping his side secure a 2-1 vital win at Kenilworth Road.

In-form striker Rasmus Hojlund netted a brace during the tie, with Carlton Morris bagging a consolation for the hosts.

However, despite Hojlund's double, it was Mainoo who emerged as the man of the moment, thanks to his key role in the middle of the park.

Mainoo's compilation vs Luton

According to SPORTbible, the 18-year-old midfielder staged a mature performance to eclipse both Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes.

Mainoo constantly got United playing, with his remarkable level of composure earning him plaudits.

Per Statsman Dave, Mainoo had an 88 per cent pass accuracy, completing 35 of the 40 passes he made.

The Englishman had a 5 out of 5 dribble success and won five ground duels.

To further put his incredible performance into perspective, Mainoo made nine ball recoveries and two key passes during the tie.

Fans were quick to take note of the midfielder's performance and shared their perspective on social media.

One of the standout comments came from Arsenal legend Ian Wright, who pointed out that Mainoo has to be part of England's Euro 2024 squad, going by his display at Luton.

"Kobbie Mainoo has to be in the next England squad. Such maturity in chaotic conditions that we've not seen from an England player in a long time. Impressed every time I watch him," Wright tweeted.

Mainoo's rise to stardom

Meanwhile, the English youngster started his career at Cheadle & Gatley as a young boy before he transitioned to Manchester United's academy.

Born in Stockport, Mainoo signed his first professional contract with the Red Devils in May 2022.

His performances, including a good display against Carlo United in the Carabao Cup, saw him earn a call-up to the senior squad in October 2022.

He made his first senior debut against Charlton Athletic in the EFL Cup in January 2023, with his league debut coming a month later against Leicester City.

He has gone on to form an important part of ten Hag's team, with the Dutchman playing a huge role in his transition.

Earlier, Sports Brief reported on Kobbie Mainoo scoring the winner with an incredible solo goal as Manchester United left it late to beat Wolves.

Wolves were on the brink of sharing the spoils with the Red Devils after Pedro Neto netted in the 95th minute of the thrilling encounter.
