Palmer's transfer fee breakdown

Chelsea targeted Palmer as they needed an attacking option who could play centrally and wide. They saw their opening £35 million approach for the youngster knocked back as they didn’t meet City’s valuation of £50 million.

The Blues were able to reach a compromise with their Premier League rivals before the transfer deadline.

City accepted Chelsea’s initial £40 million fee for Palmer, with a further £5 million due in add-ons, per Mail Sport.

Palmer sold despite his Super Cup heroics

Palmer starred for City earlier this season, scoring goals in the Community Shield against Arsenal and the UEFA Super Cup against Sevilla.

Many thought he had done enough to secure a spot in City’s first team this season, but Guardiola admitted after the Super Cup win that Palmer could leave permanently this summer, saying:

“I don't know [if he will stay]. I don't think a loan is going to happen. He's going to stay, or he's going to be sold.”

West Ham and Brighton reportedly were interested in signing Palmer, but it was Chelsea who acquired his services in the end, per the BBC.

Chelsea manager Mauricio Pochettino was asked about the Palmer transfer on Wednesday after the Blues’ 2-1 win over AFC Wimbledon in the Carabao Cup.

He didn’t confirm the move, saying he doesn’t know anything at the moment and he could not talk about players that don't belong to them.

Ansu Fati nearing Premier League switch

Sports Brief recently reported on Brighton closing in on a loan deal for Ansu Fati.

According to reports, a deal is already in place between Barcelona and Brighton for Fati to join the Premier League side.

There is no buy option clause in the loan deal, which will run until June 2024.
