That Emi Martinez save
With the game in the balance, France forward, Muani had a golden opportunity in the dying moments of the game to grab a late win for France at the Lusail Stadium, after coming up one-on-one against Argentina goalkeeper, Martinez.
However, the Aston Villa shot-stopper spread himself in epic fashion to deny the Eintracht Frankfurt striker.
Video of Messi's reaction
Footage has since emerged on social media of Messi showing a laser-like focus and not celebrating Martinez’s huge save against Muani.
Messi's thoughts on Martinez's save
Reflecting on the chance, Messi said:
"It was so fast that I didn't experience it as it really was. Then came the one from Lautaro. I suffered more watching the videos than with the play," he said, as quoted by Diario Ole.
Martinez then saved Argentina in the penalty shootout by keeping out Kingsley Coman's effort. He was awarded the best goalkeeper of the tournament.
Messi regrets World Cup celebrations
Sports Brief has also reported on Messi expressing remorse about his rudeness toward the Dutch national team at the 2022 World Cup.
Argentina qualified ahead of the Netherlands in a tempestuous quarter-final clash, which saw a record 18 yellow cards and one red dished out.
After the game, Messi showed off his uncharacteristic side by aiming angry words at striker, Wout Weghorst and later at coach, Louis van Gaal.
